Back to Work after Baby # 2!

I know have not posted in a while, but I think most of you will understand having a new baby is a bit time consuming…ok how about overwhelming and all consuming but the best thing I did in my life kinda good.

My son Julian will turn four months old on New year’s Day!  My precocious daughter Helena is turning three in February, though sometimes seems like she’s turning 30.

I once heard having two children is way more than double the work and I have found that to be true.  But just when you thought you couldn’t love anything more than your first child your heart does a triple-lindy and opens up even bigger.  The sleep deprivation is mitigated by the big blue eyes looking back at you.  The 2 year old tantrums asking when is he going back to the hospital are soothed by the big “I love you mommy” I get every morning I make a waffle with “chocolate on the top and peanut butter on the down.!”

I know I sound like a mushy mom, but the other mushers out there get it.

This Christmas I can say I felt so blessed to have a house full of children and all the chaos that goes with it.  It seems hard to believe 3 years ago it was just Dennis and I sleeping in and deciding on dinner plans.  I’m thankful for all the Better Chefs who gave me easy recipes to make this year so I could pretend to be  Martha Stewart for my in-laws while I secretly googled how to cook a tenderloin!

As we move into 2010 I will celebrate 10 years at Channel Three.  The people here are my second family.  Leaving my young children to go back to work full time is hard, but I feel I am showing my kids you really can fulfill your dreams and be a good parent.  I will continue my quest for things that can make a mom’s life easier and more peaceful.  I will share them here and on Better Connecticut so tune in.  Thank you for all of your warm wishes.  May all of you have a blessed New Year.  I look forward to reading your comments.

  1. Hi Kara:

First, I will say, you look fabulous!! You wear motherhood well!!

Enjoy your children. It goes by so fast. My son was just a baby, then 8 years old and now he is almost 17…..”what happened”??? I don’t have a 17 year old…..LOL…. You definately view life alot differently when you have children.

I wish you and your family a wonderful new year!!

    Sincerely
    Kim Bradshaw

  2. You are so right! ” just when you thought you couldn’t love anything more than your first child your heart does a triple-lindy and opens up even bigger.” the more you have the bigger your heart gets. I’m a mom of 3, 24 y/o dtr, 19 y/o dtr and 18 y/o son; the only advise I give to all young moms is..cherish every moment with them because it seems like in a blink of an eye they are all grown up. You are teaching your children great values by working and taking care of your family. Helena will learn she too can be an independent woman and at the same time still care and love her family, and Julian will learn it’s a good thing to have a wonderful, loving, smart and independent woman in his life.
I am now raising my grandson who is 4 y/o (and still can’t believe he is already going to start kindergarten in Sept) and am just enjoying parenthood a second time around.

May God bless you and your family and may you always be as happy as you seem to be. Life can be wonderful!

  3. Kara,

Congratulations and I couldn’t agree with you more! I just had my first (Scarlett Olivia) in March and it truly is a gift. We are toying with the idea of #2 and after reading your post, I am a little bit more inclined to seriously consider it. I love the fact that you are doing what you love. I am fortunate enough to be doing the same.

    Happy New Year!

  4. Hi Kara:
First let me say, it’s so good to have you back again. You look great and motherhood defintely agrees with you. I love hearing your stories about Helena and Julian on Better CT. They are such beautiful children, and I’m sure your holidays were so special this year, as they will be in years to come. You make working and being a good Mom seem so easy, and it’s quite a good example for so many women who aren’t sure if they should be leaving their children to go to work. You make women realize they can have it both ways. HAPPY NEW YEAR to both you and Dennis, and your beautiful children.

  5. Hi Kara
Congratulations on your son! I have a son who will be 3 at the end of this month and a daughter who just turned 1 in Dec. Lot of work, but worth it. I work from home full time as well as take care of my kids. My husband and I have arranged our scheduled so we can keep our kids home and no daycare. I hate when people say to me “how do you stay with your kids all day.” They are my kids, my responsibility and I love every minute of every day-good or bad.

  6. Dear Kara,

Congrats on your newest arrival! You are an inspiration and I have enjoyed watching you on Channel 3 and Better Connecticut the past few months. I had a son (at Saint Francis too!) in July and watching you and hearing your stories of being a Mom make me smile every morning. Glad to hear you had a good Christmas and best of luck to you and your family in 2010! Thank you for all you do!
